“Punisher” Ray Stevenson joins “G.I. Joe 2”
The Hollywood Reporter is claiming Ray Stevenson (Punisher: War Zone, Thor) is the latest to join director Jon Chu’s G.I. Joe sequel, “Cobra Strikes.” Stevenson has been cast as the ninja Firefly, who works with Cobra Command as a demolition expert. Stevenson joins the original Joe’s Channing Tatum and newcomer Dwayne Johnson this August when the production will begin in Louisiana.
Some raised eyebrows a few weeks back when “Green Lantern” was blessed with a sequel despite poor reviews and a middling box office take, but I’m more perplexed by this sequel personally. While “Rise of Cobra” was a decent hit, few of the original cast members are returning, most notably absent is Joseph Gordon-Levitt, the titular Cobra, who has jumped ship to “The Dark Knight Rises.” No word yet on whether he’ll be replaced, or if Cobra Commander will remain off screen for this installment.
“G.I. Joe: Cobra Strikes” is set for release in August of 2012
