Johnny Depp tops the wanted list to play magician in upcoming film, “Carter Beats the Devil”

Magicians have been a sight of trickery and awe in this world for many years. Performing on stage with acts of grace and horror to entertain a worthy crowd. Acts of disappearance and shock have changed the world’s view on magic.

Now comes word that award-winning actor and star of the 2011 highest grossing film, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Johnny Depp is at the peak of a list of talented actors in the running for the lead role in Carter Beats the Devil. The film, in development at the money, is based around a novel by author Glen David Gold. The novel involves a magician by the name of Charles Carter in the 1920s becoming involved in a situation unlike any he has created. With a good collection of historical persons in the novel, including United States President Warren G. Harding, the film is likely to be an interesting addition to Hollywood.

Carter is even said to have attempted performing the act of sawing said President in two.

Past rumored actors to be involved in the film include Tom Cruise, but looking back at the eccentric and strange portrayals of Johnny Depp (Ed Wood, Raoul Duke, Ichabod Crane, Jack Sparrow, Willy Wonka, the Mad Hatter), he seems like just the man to portray the part.

Though at the time this is merely a rumor, as Johnny has become involved with a number of other projects, the studio seems to be intent on casting the experienced and veteran actor.
