Since Rupert Wyatt quit the sequel to his smash hit Rise of the Planet of the Apes, 20th Century Fox has been quietly scrambling to find a new director to take over Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and deliver the sequel in time for May, 2014.
Deadline has got the short list of directors being considered, and here they are:
- Matt Reeves, Let Me In
- J Blakeson, The Disappearance Of Alice Creed
- Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, 28 Weeks Later
- Jeff Nichols, Take Shelter
- Guillermo del Toro, Pacific Rim
- Juan Antonio Bayona, The Impossible
- Rian Johnson, Looper
Out of all of those choices, Rian Johnson and Matt Reeves have got the most heat under them at the moment, so I’d bet one of them could take the gig. del Toro is the kind of guy that attaches himself to a zillion things and never does anything with any of them, so I honestly hope he doesn’t get it.
Expect a decision very soon, and we’ll keep you updated when the news breaks.
