Written and directed by Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, ‘Heretic‘ is a horror thriller film that follows two young missionaries who are forced to prove their faith when they knock on the wrong door and are greeted by a diabolical Mr. Reed, becoming ensnared in his deadly cat-and-mouse game.
In ‘Heretic,’ Hugh Grant plays the role of Mr. Reed, with Sophie Thatcher playing Sister Barnes and Chloe East playing Sister Paxton. The film also stars Topher Grace as Elder Kennedy and Elle Young as Prophet. The film is produced by Stacey Sher, Scott Beck, Bryan Woods, Julia Glausi, and Jeanette Volturno.
The trailer reveals how Mormon Sisters Barnes and Paxton visit the home of Mr. Reed and inquire if he’d like to learn more about the church of Jesus Christ, to which he replies “Yes” and proceeds to invite the two women in. Mr. Reed is very engaging and puts them at ease. When they are ready to leave, Mr. Reed notifies them they must exit through the back of his house. The thing is, there are two doors, of which they must choose one. He labels one door ‘Belief’ and the other door ‘Disbelief.’ When asked, “What happens if we choose the wrong door?” Mr. Reed’s expression shows this story is going to get unhinged. What starts as a simple-looking choice turns into a predetermined game with an unpredictable outcome.
