Directed by Tim Mielants, ‘Small Things Like These‘ is a historical drama film based in 1985 in an Irish town, telling the story of a father who, while working as a coal merchant to support his family, discovers disturbing secrets kept by the local convent — and uncovers truths of his own — forcing him to confront his past and the complicit silence of a small Irish town controlled by the Catholic Church.
In ‘Small Things Like These,’ Oscar® winner Cillian Murphy plays the role of the devoted father named Bill Furlong. The film also stars Eileen Walsh (as Eileen Furlong), Michelle Fairley (as Mrs. Wilson), Emily Watson (as Sister Mary), Clare Dunne (as Sister Carmel), and Helen Behan. The story is based on the best-selling novel by Claire Keegan, with the screenplay by Edna Walsh. The film is produced by Matt Damon, Cillian Murphy, Alan Moloney, Drew Vinton, Catherine Magee, and Jeff Robinov, with executive producers Ben Affleck, Michael Joe, and Keven Halloran.
In the ‘Small Things Like These’ film trailer, Bill Furlong (Cillian Murphy) is haunted by what he sees happening to women at a local convent and yearns to try and do something about it.
