Spike Jonze is finally back on the scene with a new feature, and the premise for Her is just as bizarre as Being John Malkovich or Adaptation: An introverted man slowly falls in love with his smart phone’s operating system. That man is played by Joaquin Phoenix, who seems determined to show off his acting chops after going crazy with that documentary a few years ago. Her also features Amy Adams, Rooney Mara, and Scarlett Johansson as the voice of Phoenix’s computer. The WB seems pretty happy with the film, giving it a cushy December release date, right in the middle of awards season. I can’t wait to check it out.
Her hits theaters on December 18th, 2013.
