DVD Review on the movie Zombie Apocalypse

Since The Walking Dead aired on AMC, zombies are becoming more popular these day and there are more different types of zombie movies being made.  Zombie Apocalypse is one of those movies. It starts out with a basic mystery virus outbreak that kills most of the earth’s population then brings them back as the decaying corpses who feed on the living’s flesh.  It’s up to some survivors from different parts of the United States to come together to the West Coast to see if the rumors are true about a boat that comes to pick up survivors to bring them to the island of Catalina, where it;s zombie free.  Zombie Apocalypse was directed by Nick Lyon and stars Taryn Manning, Johnny Pacar, Gary Weeks, Lesley-Ann Brandt, Eddie Steeples, and Ving Rhames (who has starred in other zombie movies like the remakes of the 2004 Dawn of the Dead and the 2008 Day of the Dead).

This movie is not your typical zombie movie.  The humans are not the only ones that get infected, animals also turn. So those scenes remind me a lot of the Resident Evil movies.  If you look hard enough there are two or three scenes that you see the same zombies running after the heros, like they shot one scene and then put it in different sections of the film.  It does have it’s own individual storyline and make-up effects (which made some of the zombie actors look scary, but some looked funny, like they were wearing rubber masks).  If you are a zombie lover like me, I think you’ll love to watch this one.  You can get this movie at your local stores or Amazon.com.

On the DVD there are two features:

The making of Zombie Apocalypse that includes behind the scenes with the cast and crew who talks about the film.

Gag Reel: A very short look at the bloopers of the film.
