“Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes” Has A Director

Director Rupert Wyatt recently left the Apes sequel, and 20th Century Fox quickly leaked a list of directors they’d like to see at the helm. That leak turned out to be a negotiating tactic, which is the kind of gross Hollywood stuff studios pull more often then you’d think.

Anyway: Matt Reeves, the director of Cloverfield and Let Me In, has been chosen to take on Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, and I’m pretty excited by that choice. Reeves is the kind of smart director that knows how to concentrate on character while keeping the spectacle worthwhile. He hasn’t had a huge hit yet, so he knows how to work well with others. That’ll be important on a big show like this.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is scheduled for release in May of 2014. We’ll keep you updated as trailers, posters, and other news rolls in.
